I Used Rootine As My Prenatal Vitamin

I Used Rootine As My Prenatal Vitamin

Please note, I am not a medical professional and this is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.  I am simply sharing my experience and how Rootine worked for me as a Prenatal

Good nutrition is important before, during, and after pregnancy.  Most doctors agree that a prenatal vitamin is key to filling in any nutritional gaps and to make sure that you do not fall short on the essential nutrients you need during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

The problem is, deciding which prenatal is the best option is close to impossible.  Between hours worth of reading online, unhelpful conversations with drugstore sales people, and an ever evolving number of new brands, it is simply overwhelming.

I faced this problem personally when thinking about the best prenatal vitamin for me.  Ultimately, I decided on Rootine (even though it is not the typical prenatal you see in a vitamin aisle).

Rootine took all of the guesswork out of finding a vitamin. By analyzing my DNA, looking at my lifestyle (asking things like age, weight, and diet), and taking my blood levels into account Rootine quickly calculated exactly what my body needed, at the dosages that were best for me.

My Prenatal Rootine

Though I had been using Rootine previously, I knew there were a few additional steps to ensure that my Rootine mix was optimized for exactly what my body needed at the moment.  Here is what I did:

Retake The Lifestyle Quiz

I went through the lifestyle quiz again to ensure that all of my diet and other lifestyle information was correct.  I also marked that I was pregnant to ensure that it was taken into account.

Checked In With My Doctor

Prior to beginning the new vitamin regimine, I took the information about my Rootine (what was in my mix and at what dosage) to my OBGYN to confirm that I was getting what I needed.  She said, yes - absolutely!

Update My Blood Levels

After my first prenatal appointment (after finding out I was expecting), the doctor ordered a multitude of blood tests.  Part of that panel included vitamin and nutrient screening, after which I learned that my levels of Vitamin D were lower than what the doctor would like.  I then input my blood level information into my Rootine customer dashboard, and my Vitamin D level in the mix was increased for my next shipment.

Requesting Some Changes

Rootine does a great job of determining the right vitamin mix for your body, but after speaking with my doctor, it made sense to make a few small adjustments to the suggested mix.  I reached out and asked for the Methylfolate levels to be increased, and the Rootine easily made those changes.

After taking these steps I was able to rest easy knowing that I was taking the right vitamins at the best dosage to keep me and my baby healthy.

The Overall Experience

Easy to Take + No Nausea Ever

The microbeads made taking vitamins SO much easier (though I will admit they take a little getting used to).  I have a really hard time swallowing large pills and that was especially true during my first trimester. The microbeads were much easier to get down and I loved that I had the option of stirring them into my food if I needed to.  Nausea during pregnancy is a real struggle, so it was great that these vitamins did not add to it.

Super Convenient

The daily packs made the vitamins super easy to travel with during work trips and easy to throw into my bag and keep some at work in case I forgot them in the morning.  (Forgetfulness is a real pregnancy problem!).  I also liked the 90 day supply delivered to my door, so I always had enough supply on hand.

Peace of Mind

There are so many confusing things about becoming a first time mom, all of which you have to learn.  I was delighted to know that my prenatal vitamin was not something I had to worry about. Having a vitamin that is based on scientific research and took all of my biometric and lifestyle data into account made me rest easier that at least one thing was handled.

Also, as part of the DNA test, I learned that I have an MTHFR gene variation that makes it harder for my body to process folic acid, a key nutrient for baby development [insert link].  As such, Rootine updated my mix to only include methylfolate, which is easier for my body to process. It was so nice knowing about the variation and that my prenatal vitamin was taking it into account.  (As it turns out, knowing about my MTHFR variation also helped my health care provider make a critical decision towards the end of my pregnancy).

My Dashboard

Throughout my pregnancy, I logged in to learn more about the vitamins I was taking and learned about the DNA results.  It was fun to think about what traits may be passed down to the baby (and made me want to get the baby’s DNA tested ASAP).   The dashboard also made it easy to share with my doctor exactly what was in the mix.

The Verdict: A Great Prenatal + The Perfect Multivitamin for After

I love Rootine as my prenatal and am continuing to use my current Rootine mix as I am breastfeeding.  The best part of Rootine is that once I am done breastfeeding, I can simply retake the lifestyle quiz and make some other small adjustments to get a new mix that will support my body where it is today.
